Dennis B. Appleton creates abstract works that are designed to ask questions rather than answer them.  Working in both acrylics and oil, he bypasses traditional techniques (he’ll use anything but a brush in his studio) to arrive at something he hopes comes across as interesting and a little unorthodox.  Color and texture are equal partners in his work, and he thoroughly enjoys his ongoing exploration of each.  If his name sounds familiar, it might be because he's been a regular contributor to the "Letters to the Editor" section of, among other publications, the Wisconsin State Journal and the New York Times for the past 30 years.
